Rupert Sanderson produced his first collection and launched his eponymous shoe company in 2001. His design philosophy focuses on ‘less is more’. Avoiding over-dressing the foot, he concentrates on perfecting the line, volume and materials to flatter and lengthen the leg, and to make women feel sexy and beautiful. His inspiration comes from the material’s themselves; from the sensual curve and silhouettes of the lasts and heels, to the quality and finish of the highest quality leathers and fabrics. Rupert’s career started at the prestigious Cordwainers College in London, honing his skills before relocating to Italy for 18 months to work for Sergio Rossi and Bruno Magli. Over the past decade, Rupert Sanderson has built up a loyal and diverse celebrity fan base, including stars such as Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow, Julia Roberts, Keira Knightley, Victoria Beckham, Emma Watson and the Duchess of Cambridge. Rupert has Mayfair flagship store at 19 Bruton Place and opened his first Asian flagship store in Hong Kong in 2010, followed closely by the opening of his first store in China at Shanghai IFC Mall and two more stores in Hong Kong.
After resigning from a disastrous career in advertising, and enrolling at the Cordwainers College in East London, Sanderson spent the summer holiday riding a motorbike to Italy to visit as many shoe factories, tanneries and last makers as he could, It was during this trip that he truly developed his passion and understanding for the craft and magic of shoe making. Rupert has been awarded Accessory Designer of The Year at the British Fashion Awards in 2008 and shortly afterwards in February 2009, he was also awarded Accessory Designer of The Year at the Elle Style Awards.
